The Institute for Green Science (IGS) website, and Carnegie Mellon University are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy applies to the IGS website and governs information collection and usage of the website and email services. 


Access and/or use of this website constitutes acceptance of the practices described in this Privacy Policy and the provisions in the Terms of Use.  Similarly, by providing IGS with personal information, you signify that you agree with our Privacy Policy.  Personal information is information about you that is personally identifiable such as your name, postal address, email address, or phone number, and that is not otherwise publicly available.  If you do not agree with any term in our Privacy Policy, please do not provide any personal information.

Note, however, that if you choose not to provide personal information, you may not be able to access particular sections of the IGS website, including, but not limited to, entry of sweepstakes and/or contests, or sending email and receiving email from IGS or Carnegie Mellon University.

Information Collected

IGS collects information you choose to provide such as your name, screen name and email address. IGS collects non-personal information such as browser type, operating system, and web pages accessed via the IGS website.  IGS uses cookies and other Internet technologies to manage this website and email program.  IGS does not use these technologies to collect or store personal information [[except for information pertaining to any courses you may be taking.  This information is only shared with your instructor(s).  IGS does not rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or non-affiliated companies.

Change in Account Information and Preferences

You may review, change or update personal information related to your account at any time by logging into the "Your Account" link at the top of any page on the site. 

Changes to this Privacy Policy

Carnegie Mellon University may, at its discretion, update this Privacy Policy without notice to you. We recommend that you check the Privacy Policy of the IGS website periodically for any changes.

Opt-out Provisions

If you do not want to receive certain email or other communications from IGS after you register, you can click on the "Your Account" link at the top of any page of the site. (You will only see this link after you have registered.) Once there, you may choose not to receive email that Carnegie Mellon University may sometimes send. If you would like to close your account entirely, simply click the "Feedback" link at the top of each page and give us your user name and we will close the account. When you register the first time, you can also choose to not receive email by clicking the appropriate box on the registration page.

Note, however, that IGS reserves the right to send you certain communications relating to the website such as service announcements, administrative messages, and updates about the site and its services. These communications may be sent without offering you the opportunity to opt out of receiving them.
